Ch-ch-changing

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Change is defined as making or becoming different. Change can be positive or negative, but it is change. Over the past few weeks, a few things have happened in which I have noticed a change, whether it is with me, friends, lifestyle, anything...

With all that being said,

7 years difference.

CHANGE. In it's finest form. Welcome, 8th grade Kathryn. I was valedictorian of my class, and off to my dream high school. Now I am getting ready to enter my senior year of college. Uhm, WHAT?! Its crazy to think how much has really changed, not just by appearance, but personality, wants, desires, personality, feelings, motivations, interests, honestly everything!

But in all honesty, change is nothing without the right time. When it's the right time, change will come, whether it is for the best, or if it is the bad before it gets better.

Welcome to the Let's Be Friends Blog Hop!

A blog hop is a set time frame for current or aspiring bloggers to find new blogs and quality content. It is a great way to make new friends and find inspiration! It is also a fabulous way to promote your own blog and posts.

Dear Friends,

What a day to celebrate! This is the 76th week of the Let's Be Friends blog hop! Thanks for joining us on this special day. Chelsee and Tiffany are extremely delighted to see the way this hop has grown and love to see your faces each week!

Join us every Tuesday at 7am (MST). This blog hop focuses on content. LINK UP YOUR FAVORITE POST from last week in this fun content-sharing blog hop! I love the idea of blog hopping, but I love the idea of reading posts and quality content on new blogs I've never been to even more. Instead of simply linking up your blog button, you are now able to link up your favorite post you recently wrote. Have a delicious recipe to share, DIY tutorial, or heartfelt post? Share it with us! All hosts and co-hosts put up some unique and fun content from the past week. Make sure to check them out. P.S.- you may still link up your blog button and blog name, but it is encouraged to link up your favorite post instead. You will get more page views and interest if you do so! Some of the most successful blog hops I have participate in focus on content rather than just exchanging follows. You never know who will become a loyal follower or pin that delicious new recipe you posted!

The BEST part of this blog hop? Each week there will be a WINNER! That's right, each week we will choose one lucky blog to feature from the previous week's hop. This hop receives thousands of page views every week, so your blog will have the chance to be center stage for free. You must follow all the hosts and co-hosts in order to win. Only those who link up a specific post are eligible to be featured! *You must follow all the hosts and co-hosts in order to win.

The last exciting change is that the co-host spots will now be available to all sponsors of  The Dwelling Tree or Southern Beauty Guide. If you are interested in co-hosting the blog hop, email Tiffany or Chelsee about sponsorship opportunities and how to co-host the weekly hop!

There are a couple of great giveaways going on right now at Southern Beauty Guide and The Dwelling Tree. Go check them out! :)

***This weeks featured post from last week's hop:

Hi everyone! This is Tiffany this week. Thank you all once again for continually linking up at our blog hop. It is such a fun time and I am so impressed each week with all the amazing posts. Please continue to link up an actual post instead of your blog. We want to keep reading your content and it makes it more fun to pick a winner!

... onto the winner!

As I scrolled through all the delicious posts my eyes caught this one. Perhaps it is because I have always been interested in fostering a child, but I wanted to read the post. What I would soon discover is that this little post would leave me almost in tears. Jennifer, the writer of this post, did a magnificent job of uncovering many of the stereotypes and assumptions of the kinds of homes foster kids come from, and gave me a new perspective and grace for all those involved in the foster system. This was a deep, heartfelt, and loving post. If you are considering fostering, adopting, or know a family going through the process, read this post. This is a very interesting and lovely perspective of the power of love.

The blog is filled with inspirational and real posts about life. Bookmark it for posts that will lift up your day. I am so excited to have a new daily read!

Keep posting awesome content! You make it so fun for us to read all your posts! If you can, please link up a specific post. It makes it easier for us to come and visit!

*Remember YOU can be next weeks winner! :)

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

Friday, March 28, 2014

I love tags. I love them! I also love giveaways. And you know what? Since it's Friday, I'm giving you BOTH! You're welcome in advance *smirking emoji* I was going to do another update post, but I can't. I can't write about what's going on when I don't know what's going on or how I feel about it. And I'm an emotional person!! But over these past few days, so much has gone down that I just don't know how to feel. There's my family. My internship. My class. A boy. A friend. Just so much stuff that shouldn't happen within the span of 72 hours, that did.
So here are some questions that have nothing to do with everything that I am currently dealing with. Which is exactly what I need right now.

My questions:
01. Pens or pencils?

PENS 100%. I don't like pencils. They drive me crazy. They get on my hand. They run out of lead. The eraser marks get everywhere. It's awful.

02. What's the last dream you remember having?

I went out to dinner with my celebrity crush and he drove me home and then I fell while we were walking. This would probably happen in real life, mind you.

03. If you had a Patronus, what would it be?

I have no idea. So I took this quiz: http://www.quizrocket.com/patronus-test
My Patronus is a Rabbit
Your patronus takes the form of a Rabbit. A rabbit is known for being somewhat shy. Similarly, you tend to be quiet around others, especially new people. However, you are very bright and alert. You are good at reading people and know who to trust. You are also nurturing and kind. You may have trouble conjuring your patronus because your mind tends to race in the heat of a battle.
04. Are there any foods you hated as a kid that you like now?
Brussel Sprouts! They used to scare me.

05. What's your favorite part about where you live?
I live in two cities because I'm complicated. I love both LA and SF because they are citites. I love having my car in LA and that I can always have somewhere to go or do. I love SF because of the restaurants and city life. SF reminds me of a hybrid between LA and NY with a mix of "hipster" and I love it (no I am not hipster).

06. Do you have siblings? If so, are you the oldest, youngest, or middle?
Only child! Woot wooooot.

07. If you could have a talent that you don't currently possess, what would it be?
To either sing or dance. Or teleport. But let's be realistic. So probably to sing.

08. What's your favorite Disney princess movie?
UHM. CINDERELLA. DUH.

09. Do you prefer hot or iced tea?
Iced! If I want a hot drink I usually go for coffee.

10. What's your favorite thing about your blog?
The name! After going through 3 blog name changes, I am in love with the title of my blog, just because I feel like it really encompasses everything.

11. What is your favorite form of social media?
  1. Tweeter
  2. Instagram
  3. Tumblr
  4. LinkedIn
  5. Facebook

Spoiler: You May Cry. I Did.

Friday, February 28, 2014

Greeting Internet world.
I'm in a weird mood today. A good weird? Sure. Just a weird mood. I'm also wearing rain boots and leggings at work, so that may have something to do with it, and it took me an hour to get out of bed this morning. AN HOUR. I need to make my bed.
See? Weird mood.

Alrighty, today is a favorites post because it's Friday and we all need something easy, simple, and ________ (insert word of choice here, like Mad Libs!) on Fridays. Also, I recommend you follow these favorites as steps to you Friday night. Because that is how I am putting them in order. Take that as you may. I took it as finishing the bottle of red wine in my kitchen because it's a screw on top and not a cork, which kind of freaks me out, but it's easy. Get ready for the best transition ever...

First favorite: Corkless wine bottles. I like them. I think that they are meant to be drank in one sitting, which I didn't do, but I like them. They are like CoverGirl, easy, breezy, beautiful.

Second favorite: This song by Lea Michele who I used to envy because, well, I was am in love with Cory Monteith. I cried. You might cry. It's an amazing song and I give her all the credit in the world for being able to record this song, and do all of the amazing things she has since his passing. I am also just obsessed with her, and really want the new Teen Vogue with her on the cover, but no one has it. Ahem, Target, get your $#!% together.

Third favorite: Netflix. Well actually (shameless self promotion) this post on Netflix.
http://astoldbykathryn.blogspot.com/2014/02/why-you-need-netflix-in-your-life.html

Fourth favorite: This post/challenge/brilliant idea by Karissa. *cue: I'm cleaning out my clost* I cleaned out my closet last month, just donated all three bags to different charities, and now am going to attempt this 6 month challenge and wear everything. This is hard because I live in two different places, but we'll work with it. Game on.
http://www.karissaandcompany.com/2014/02/closet-challenge-wearing-every-item.html

Fifth favorite (not in the order of things to do): LinkedIn. I'm obsessed. Go connect with me. I'll endorse you for a bunch of cool stuff. I love LinkedIn. I've come to the conclusion that it is my Facebook, because on Facebook people talk about their engagement or their babies, but I like to talk about my internships (if you didn't know...) so LinkedIn is great. Fabulous. Go get you one. Also, I would like to take this moment to make a PSA: My last name is NOT Michel. Michel is my middle name and it is pronounced like Michelle. That is all.

Can I have an un-favorite? My phone is broken. Not shattered, not dead, but finicky about what apps it lets open, and temperamental about when I call people, and has decided to manage who I send texts to... So that's fun.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Concerts, Engagements, and Banana Pancakes

Monday, February 10, 2014

I would like to start this post by saying that I did my laundry on Friday and I haven't felt that successful in awhile. It was great. I also started a new Netflix show. Oops. But I think this show was made for me. Like it's everything I like in a show, plus what I am actually interested in, in real life. If you follow me on Twitter than you know that this show is The West Wing. I am so so so obsessed! Also Rob Lowe is a QTPIE so that helps too (: Plus it has been raining all weekend (yay SF) and so I needed something to do while procrastinating doing homework. Friday night I ran errands with the munchkins (my littles) and we got Ike's sandwiches and adventured in the rain! Don't worry, we had a car...

Saturday kind of flew by. I woke up late after not doing anything but watching Netflix the night before, and watched more Netflix and painted my nails. I told you, successful weekend. My mom also sent me a picture of this shirt. I guess that sums it all up, right?

Saturday night was concert night at our school and we had St. Lucia and Krewella, but I didn't stay for Krewella, so I basically just went to a St. Lucia concert. Let's just not ask questions about that night, I'm still connecting the dots and replaying me falling over and over again. I really need to learn how to walk.

Sunday morning it was still raining, and I got brunch with the almost birthday girl, Alex! We went to Eats which is one of my favorite bruncheries in the city (yep, just made that word up) and of course I was craving French Toast, but they didn't have it. I settled with banana chocolate chips pancakes and OH MY DELICIOUSNESS. So good. Also, I am only going to post pictures of breakfast and ice cream on my instagram from now on because that is what gets you people those random people that are following me to like my pictures. Yay for caring about how many Instagram likes I get. The first step is admitting it, right? I know I have a problem...

The rest of Sunday consisted of homework reading and West Wing, I am actually obsessed! With West Wing, not homework because that would be kind of weird...
Sunday night we had chapter and MY LITTLE'S ENGAGEMENT was officially announced! Let the Pinterest wedding board begin! It's crazy to type that, heck she still freaks out when she says "my wedding" or anything out loud but I am so so happy for her and so glad I could be here for this part in her life! It is a huge step and I could not be more excited for her and Josh (the lucky guy!)

Also! Exciting news! I set up my sponsor page!! Go check it out (: I already had my first button swap! Look at me doing cool blogger things...

Is this like, the Oscars?

Friday, February 7, 2014

Wednesday night, I am at dinner, and I get a Twitter notification from the ever so lovely Rachael from Lumuhand. At first, all I read was "Starbucks" and got really excited, because it reminded me that when I went to target earlier that day, I got a $1 off Starbucks coupon for the Starbucks in Target. Then I read it. Paused. Re-read it. And freaked out. I have never been "nominated" for anything and to be recognized for my blog by a fellow blogger is a pretty big deal to me! So there are some rule, some questions that I answered, and some questions that I tagged 11 people to answer. Some of the people I tagged are really cool and I consider them blog famous so they might go over the follower "limit" but I wanted to tag them because I like them. Okay? Cool.

Let's get into the rules:

  1. Link back to the blogger that nominated you: Rachael, you are AMAZING and I am currently craving Starbucks (see question #1)
  2. Answer the 11 questions requested by the nominator.
  3. Choose 11 nominees with small followings (from as small as 200 or 2,000).
  4. You can not nominate the person who nominated you.
  5. You must let the bloggers know they were nominated.

1.What is your signature Starbucks drink?
Nonfat Vanilla Latte.. Because all those crazy, intense sweet drinks kind of scare me

2. What's the strangest advice that you've ever been given, yet you swear by it?
Someone told me that everything happens for a reason after I wasn't accepted into my dream school. I was miserable for a month or so, but now look where I am!

3. What non-profit organization do you support?
I support both CASA and the Theta Foundation through my sorority (:

4. What was the reasoning behind your parent's choice for your name?
My name was supposed to be Lillian after my mom's best friend, but they decided to go with her middle name, Kathryn, instead
My middle name is Michel, which is French for the name Michael (aka, my dad!)

5. Are you a shower singer? If so, what songs are in your watery set list?
I used to be.. then people would tell me they heard me so I stopped.

6. What's the worst date you've ever been on?
The one I got stood up on... There's a blog post about it, please read it here

7. Do you have any tattoos?
Nope, I don't like needles... But I have 6 piercings! All on my ears don't freak out. And no mom, I didn't get any new ones

8. What do you think the fox says?
A hybrid between a "woof" and a "meow"

9. If you were 16, what advice would you have given your future (current) self?
Stop falling for the douche bags and seriously look into schools on the east coast

10. What song would be on the soundtrack of your life?
"Haven't Met You Yet" by Michael Buble

11. What is something embarrassing about yourself?
I could do a whole post just on this one question... There are so many things.
In third grade I peed my pants... that was pretty awful.

Who do I tag?!
Meredith- Monogram Meredith
Rach- Sunshine and Sinatra
Carolina- Socal Mermaid
Allison- Because I Said So
Caitlyn- Engimatic Ambiance
Juliette- The Other Juliette
Marla- A Weekend Crossing
Brooklyn- A Little Too Jolley
Ady- When In Doubt, Just Add Glitter
Lauren- Lights In The Sky
And, of course, my blog big!
Brianna- Endlessly Beloved

My questions! I don't know if this is allowed but I am stealing some of Rachael's and adding some of my own. It's Friday, we're going with it

1. What Starbucks drink would you order, if you were only allowed to order one for the rest of your life?
2. What was the worst date you ever went on?
3. What is the reasoning behind your blog name?
4. What is your favorite theme park and why? (If you say Disneyland, we need to plan a trip)
5. Are you a breakfast person? If yes, what is your favorite breakfast food?
6. Coffee or tea and why? (As I'm on my second cup.. oops!)
7. What is your favorite Justin Timberlake song?
8. If you were to have a super power what would it be and why?
9. PC or Mac?
10. What is the worst gift you have ever received?
11. If you were only allowed to have one form of social media (not including your blog) what would you keep? (I'd pick Twitter.. because I like sharing my thoughts with all of you, even though half of it is irrelevant.)
