7 Things On Friday

Friday, January 31, 2014

We did it! We made it through another week. Go us. I don't know how it is only the second week of school.

Yesterday's post was not only an introductory "hey look, I got a new blog layout" but it was also a list of things I like! So in contrast, since today is Friday and I'm supposed to pick five things, I decided to make a list of things I don't like! But I really wanted to incorporate Miley Cyrus in this blog post because, why not, and so I made it 7 things I hate about life don't like, not to be negative on Friday, but just so that you can get a better sense of who I am!

Face Lift with Julie Andrews

Thursday, January 30, 2014

My mom is probably reading this thinking "She's 20 years old, why is she thinking about a face-lift?! She's gorgeous just the way she is..." Wow, I scare myself at how good my impressions of my mom are in my head. I LOVE YOU MOM, DON'T TEXT ME AND BE ANGRY AT ME.

I said I wanted a blog face lift when I got 100 followers on BlogLovin. Well, I jumped the gun, and got a new blog design because the amazing Rachel, from Sunshine & Sinatra, decided to be a magical princess, and created a rainbow of simplicity, class, and trendiness on my blog. That's a lot of adjectives. I like adjectives. THANKS, SUNSHINEY RACH!

Why did I do the change? Well as much as I loved my old blog layout, which I did, like a lot, I felt that I had out grown it. It has to the point where I have finally found my "blog voice" (is that a thing?) and I now know what I enjoy blogging about, what works, what doesn't, all that fun stuff. So yes, my blog may seem more "grown up" but consider my old blog layout the awkward teen years, and now we have finally made the transition into our twenties/real life. Does this make sense? It makes sense in my head, but now I feel like I am just rambling...

Basically, I hope you like the new blog layout as much as I do, and since we are talking about things I like (I am getting really good at these transitions, so I hope you notice...) I thought I would give you a list of a few of my favorite things. Some people Beauty bloggers/vloggers, which is what I pretend I am sometimes (you should see my obscene makeup collection) do monthly favorites. As much as I like this concept, I can barely remember products I used two days ago, let alone products I used four weeks ago. *Insert fish emoji here because I have the memory of a gold fish.*
So here it is. A listicle, yes that is a word, I learned about them in my PR class, on a few of my favorite things. *Cue Julie Andrews* And no, these are not in any particular order, I can't put one of these over the other. That wouldn't be nice.

Word of the Year

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Yesterday, my favorite Utah blogger/Disney lover Brooklyn, tweeted a link to her blog post back in December about her word of the year. The first thing that crossed my mind was why I did't remember reading that post, probably because I have over 600 blog posts to catch up on on BlogLovin' and school has once again taken over my life, but the second thing that came to mind was that I wanted a word of the year. Yes, yes, I know it is January 29 and resolutions were already supposed to have been made, and some have even been broken, but it is still January so at least I'm not making a word of the year in like October. Right? Okay. Glad we're on the same page now.
Here is some of the background information that went into my decision of my word of the year, which if you are impatient, like I am, have already scrolled down to the bottom to read it. Don't be tempted to do that now. We're almost there. And please keep in mind how much I don't like "New Year, New Me" things which is why I don't like resolutions, but this is just a word to have in the back of my mind for the year. Okay. Let's do this.

Because was the word of the year in 2013 which is weird because someone told me it was "selfie" but I am glad it isn't and my faith in humanity can now be restored.

The color of the year for 2014 is Radiant Orchid. Don't worry, I still have my faith in humanity. I think. I just don't understand why it has to be Radiant Orchid and not just Orchid, but then again I still don't understand the purpose of the color of the year.
"The captivating, magical and enchanting Radiant Orchid. An invitation to innovation, modern and versatile Radiant Orchid encourages creativity and originality. Imbued with a harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and its rosy undertones emanate great joy, love and health."
I can deal. It isn't the worst reason for picking a color, and I kind of like it. I'm waiting for mint to be the color of the year, and for the reason to be to start fresh, be clean, turn into a mermaid, etc...

So since it is almost the end of January, which is insane I might add, I thought I would pull from what has happened in January to influence my word of the year, and hopefully set the tone for the next 11 months. This year I hope to accomplish a lot of things, from growing in my work field, to growing my blog, and to becoming a senior in college. This time next year, I will be pulling up my big girl panties and getting ready to enter the job force with interviews, or applying to law schools or paralegal schools, or looking for apartments in New York (hey, a girl can dream, right?). Either way, next year isn't just college. That shit is real life (please reference Pitch Perfect, "This shit is real life. NOW. Don't just bring it, sing it, and let's do this").

Drumroll please...

My word of the year, for 2014 is:

What is your word of the year?

Today, I Felt Like Cady Heron

Monday, January 27, 2014

Mr. Duvall: We have a new student, her name is Cady. Cady Heron. Where are you, Cady?
Cady: That's me. It's pronounced like Katie.
Mr. Duvall: My apologies. I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.

Today, this was me. I was this. We were one. Today was my first day at my new internship, and I was beyond nervous, which is weird, because normally I'm just excited. Anyways, so my morning started off with me running to catch the bus, and the bus driver laughing at me. So that was fun. After going through security, which I have to get used to, and they thought my iPad was suspicious, I got to work 1 minute early. Yay me! I got in and the computer took like an hour to start up. Okay, maybe 25 minutes. Then I started reading this super fun, actually hilarious intern 101 book that was written by an intern a few years ago. But since it was written a few years ago, there were names of people who didn't work there any more which confused me. Enter introduction of me by my boss #1: "This is, what's your name again?"
Here's a picture of my outfit! I need more business casual stuff meaning I need to figure out what in my closet can be turned into business casual meaning I probably have to wear skirts or dresses meaning I have to shave my legs. The pain.

People came into our office and asked us if we wanted anything from Brenda's and by "we" I mean my boss, because I'm the intern, and no one wants to get me beignets. I wanted to say yes. But I didn't. And my boss said no, because he had a carrot. Who chooses carrots over beignets?!
After reading the novel of interns 101, I read the newspaper for news clippings. Enter introduction of me by my boss #2: "This is Kathy" Close, we're getting there! After clipping the news, I had a task. A task from the capitol building. To count color books. Yep, yes. Intern hard at work over here. I should apply for benefits because I got a paper cut, like who said counting coloring books was easy? Not me. There were over 300. That isn't even the best part. I got lost. I was walking from the back office to our office and I walked into the wrong office. Mind you this was after circling the floor like 3 times. I WALKED INTO THE WRONG OFFICE. The lady looked shocked and she asked if she could help me, I responded with "no" and walked out. Then I found my office. It was horrifying. I wanted to cry. I pulled through, and ate lunch at my desk. Better than Cady in the bathroom right? I also befriended the other intern, who I think is like a part time paid intern, but I have no idea because I told her my entire life and she didn't tell me anything. What else is new? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. This friendship only came after she wouldn't talk to me for like an hour because she thought I had been an intern there for months. False. She's new too, though! She started last week. The only thing she told me about herself. Enter introduction of me by my boss #3: "This is Kathleen." SO CLOSE. Spoiler, he got my name right by the end of the day. You go, Glen Coco, you go. One of my bosses then announced she was going to get coffee, did we want anything. Again, I felt out of place and just sat in my corner desk as the new intern. It was great. Then I got a tour of the mail room, there's two. What is the purpose of having two mail rooms?! At the end of the day I got my badge which gave me access to our office, but more importantly, the bathrooms.

Hi Gabi....

So that was my first day! Not a complete failure, right?

I Know You Want It

Friday, January 24, 2014

If you started singing Blurred Lines after reading the title of today's blog post, my job here is done. Just kidding, wait, don't leave I actually have some very important things I need to address here. Important meaning, iPhone related, meaning emojis. Because let's be honest, there is an ongoing list of emojis that I would like to see Apple add, so I am going to share it with you. (With, of course, the help of my friends via Twitter.)

Mind you, this is is no particular order, because they are all very important and necessary in my our emoji lives.
  • Taco
  • Red solo cup
  • Girl walking
  • Three girls (Stop your dirty mind right there. I have too many group chats where it is me and two other girl friends and I would like an emoji for that.)
  • Different princesses
  • Prince
  • Burrito
  • Hugging sloth
  • Middle finger
  • Ballerina
  • Toothbrush
  • Kite
  • A French Bulldog
  • Grasshopper
  • Bagel
  • Selfie
  • Pie
  • A better sick emoji because I overuse the other one.
  • Yin-yang symbol*
  • Mermaid*
*added after originally posted.

Since it is Friday, I am probably forgetting some very obvious, important ones, so comment below with what emojis I missed or that you want to see!

Have an absolutely amazing weekend! I will be home getting over this cold, in my bed, with Netflix. Oh, the exciting life I lead.

Blog Friends To The Rescue

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Happy hump day! I am happy to say that I am getting over this head cold, or whatever it is that has had me feeling *bleh* these past few days. My mom blames it on all the crying we have done, and she's probably right. I could probably go through at least three more tissue boxes, or get endless "I'm so sorry texts", the thing that cheered me up over the last few days was you. Yeah, you blogland. Why? Because blogland is full of amazing, caring people that I can call my friends. My new favorite thing is getting friend requests on Facebook (even though I hate Facebook, for many many reasons) from my blog friends. Next step, hanging out and actually meeting blog friends. Maybe we could have a whole blog-people party. Now *that* would be a real party.

Yesterday I had my first day of classes, and today I have none. Yay for only having classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I think, hopefully it isn't awful. I had a phone interview for an internship this morning, which I think went pretty well, and now I am headed off to work. I have another interview tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed!

Oh and Mr. Snapchat sent me a picture of him in a seamud face mask lastnight. So I'll leave you with that, and the fact that there is still time to enter this amazing giveaway!!!

"Peaceful"

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

On Sunday morning, I tweeted something about how hard goodbyes are, especially when it might be your last. Thankfully, I said those goodbyes because yesterday we had to say goodbye to my dog, Daisy. If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you know how obsessed with my dog I was am due to the insane amount of pictures I posted of her. Not going to apologize, she was adorable. She was fifteen, and she had a tumor in her throat causing a skin disease and was crying in pain and we could tell she was suffering. Fifteen years out of my twenty is a long time, and I will miss her greatly. I know this blog is supposed to be happy and fun, but it is also a place where I can write what and how I feel at any given moment. Today, sadness, tomorrow potentially happiness.

My Lipgloss Was Popping | IMATS

Monday, January 20, 2014

I survived my third year of IMATS LA! I also survived my bumpy plan ride back to San Francisco, so hello from my bed in my apartment in the bay *waving emoji*. Before we dive into Saturday, Friday night I went to YouTube Space with my parentals and we got a little tour and went for "happy hour" which is in quotes because I don't think it was an open bar, the food was bad, and it was just a lot of people drinking beer. We got there looked around and didn't know what to do, so after walking around aimlessly in circles for a little bit, we decided to hop on a tour, hop on meaning wait for a new walking tour to begin. The tour was cool, it wasn't as big as I thought it was, but I mean if i had over 10k YouTube subscribers you best believe I would film there! There was also a dog walking around and I still don't understand. Based on the amount of YouTube I watch you would think I would know at leat one or to people. Nope. Nada. I literally didn't recognize anyone. There were some cute guys though, but of course by the time I realized they were cute I didn't get to see their name tag/YouTube channel/talk to them. Sad day. We then went to dinner in Santa Monica and ate some yummy yummy food.

And now, Saturday. This was my third year ,woo! and my first year actually waiting in the line outside. I also went by myself *preface*. First year, my mom said her foot hurt and we couldn't stand so we got escorted to the front. Okay. Second year I went with Rachel and by them time we got there, we just walked in. This year, I got there around the same time I did last year, and the line wrapped around the convention center. Oh well, the line moved quickly. Once I got inside I knew the first thing I wanted to do was go to Sigma because 30%, no shipping, and I needed brushes. I made friends in line, the hour long line, and then we adventured IMATS together. Yay friends! I also got stuck in a corner because that is how crowded it was. Like I couldn't move. Ugh.
After I was done with my shopping, I looked up and basically ran to this beauty right here. Her name is Taylor and her youtube is BeeIsforBeeauty, because her last name is Bee. Is that not the cutest thing ever? Anyways I have been watching her videos for forever and I just walked up to her and hugged her. It isn't as creepy as it sounds because I had been tweeting her but still. Sorry, Taylor, I was just overwhelmed with excitement. She is so sweet, and stunning and she is traveling and going on this huge journey and I can't wait to see where it all takes her!

After we chatted it up, I walked around with my (new) friends some more and then ran into Sarah from sarahbelle93x, who might as well be J. Crew's one and only model, and caught up with her! After walking around a little more, my hunger got the best of me and it was time for tacos, I mean lunch.
On my way over to Yard House, I saw the one and only Kandee Johnson. Just standing there, talking to a few people. What? Like why wasn't she swarmed? She's Kandee Johnson. SHE WAS SO NICE. I can't even explain how nice she is. She was running late to a judging contest, so we selfied (pretty sure that isn't a word, but work with me here). It was great.

Nicole. Guerriero. That's all. I wanted to wait in line to actually meet her, but this picture will have to suffice. *Crying emoji, heart eyes emoji*

I did some shopping, not too bad of damage, just some new (much needed) brushes, blushes, and some NYX lip goodies.
IMATS is also supposedly a really great opportunity for new profile pictures and blog icons?...

Top: J. Crew
Necklace: Forever 21
Nails: China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy
Watch: Michael Kors
Bracelet: Alex & Ani
Black Jeans: Gap

I hope you all had an incredible weekend! I am definitely not ready to go back to school tomorrow, so I am off to organize my planner/books/school bag, the general school basics, to get me into that school mode. Wish me luck!

JT Made Me Cry

Friday, January 17, 2014

I would like to start out this post by saying that I am having Pad Thai for breakfast. Why? Because it's Friday, it's been one of those mornings, I didn't eat breakfast until 12 it was in the fridge. I scrambled up an egg and put it in there, does that count as "breakfasty"? I'm also having it with coffee so there's that. This morning has been a trip down crazy, frantic, on the verge of tears road. But Kathryn, it's Friday. True, but it is also the day that Justin Timberlake tickets went on sale. If you follow me on Twitter than you know the craziness I went through this morning in order to see JT bring sexy back in person, but basically BofA thought I was hacking my own credit card, I lost really great seats, I met a woman named Angela who is sending me a Target giftcard because she felt bad I lost my ticket seats, and now we're seeing JT from the nosebleed section. But you know what? I'm going with 3 of my really good friends, and we will breathe the same air as Justin so it will be fine. That was creepy. Let's forget I said that, yes? Cool. Also, last night I saw Lone Survivor and I cried my eyes out. It was so good. Go see it.

Since it is Friday, I usually "Back That Azz Up" at the end of my post, but in the spirit of JT, we will back it up before I get into my 5 things on Friday

1. Justin Timberlake/Staples

I am actually so excited for this concert, if you couldn't tell how badly I wanted to go by searching for tickets for 2 and a half hours. Then again, this Twitter conversation with Staples made it all worth it. And yes, I know this is Staples US and not Staples Center, I made a mistake because I am human but now I have a conversation and I can't just delete it.

2. IMATS

IMATS LA is Saturday! Tomorrow! YAY! I have my outfit, and I am so so so so ready. Eep! This will be my third year going, and I cannot wait to see my friends, meet new people, and see what's new in the makeup world. And of course, I get to hang out with my mom and aunt, the coolest sisters I know. I will be live tweeting IMATS LA, so be warned, and I probably will post Instagram posts too.

3. YouTube

I am going to YouTube Space tonight! Well, this afternoon. I am going to a "happy hour" event, whatever that means, but hopefully it is lots and lots of fun and I get to meet a ton of cool people. Also, I feel like YouTube Space is like a playground for YouTubers which sounds.. fun? Exciting? I don't know. I'm wearing Lou, my Anthropology sweater, and a skirt, whaaat? A skirt? Yeah I shaved my legs. In January. I know. Welcome to Los Angeles.

4.  Bye Bye LA, Hello SF

I go back to San Francisco on Sunday! These past 6 weeks, have gone by so quickly and I don't know how I am going to fit everything in my suitcase. Including my dog. She's coming back with me, I can't say goodbye knowing it might be the last time I see her *cue waterworks.* But I am very excited for this upcoming semester! I have my apartment to go back to, my roommie, Theta events, my littles, my mini me, EEP, I have very high expectations for this semester and I can't wait for it to begin! Well, maybe the classes part could like, hold off for a little? That'd be really nice.

5. Giveaway!

And last but not least, the giveaway I mentioned yesterday! There is a week to enter, and there are some very good prizes, and some awesome girls participating!

Vampires, Witches, Werewolves, & a Giveaway OH MY!

Thursday, January 16, 2014

The time has come, where my obsession is put to the test, and I tell you what and how i feel after 4 amazing seasons. Also, girl on the left with the mohawk- is that supposed to be Jenna? I don't know. There will be spoilers in this post. Here is your warning. Don't worry, I'll try not to make the spoilers too bad, but some of them are inevitable.

Why this picture? Because Ian Somerhalder, or Damon, looks smokin'. Yep. He is, wow. And then theres Stefan, but like they don't look like brothers but I'm not complaining because, hi they're gorgeous.

BY FAR my favorite couple. I like them and I like that Elena is cool with them dating. One thing I don't like is how he treats her like half the time they're together because Bonnie literally does everything for him and her friends and gets nothing in return, not even the guy, really. I mean technically speaking she does but who knows, this is season 4, theres another season to go.

Elijah and Katherine. I LIKE THEM TOGETHER! I feel like he brings out the good in her and she brings out something in him, I don't know what but he loves/loved her. Short love flame in season 4, but hey, it was fun.

Whoever made this quote thing, thank you! Kol is my favorite original even though he's not in many episodes, the episodes he is in are my favorites. Except when he goes crazy, that part kind of scares me, but yes. He is great. You go Kol, you go.

Rebecca and Matt- I didn't like them at first. I was like nope, you two are not a good fit, and she's evil and you're the perfect, adorable quarterback, but now... now I like them and think she will make a good impact on him.

Can we just take a minute to appreciate how much I would love history if he were my teacher.

And last but not least, my "ship." I can't believe I said that. Wow. Anyways, they will get together because Klaus is the bad boy we all secretly want to date but is actually a good guy, would treat her right, and is a hopeless romantic. If Caroline doesn't take him, I will.

If anyone knows how to watch Vampire Diaries season 5 episodes 1-5, let me know (:
So, if you didn't know, vampires are immortal. I'm sure having about 162 birthdays is boring, and Stefan definitely didn't want to celebrate his 162nd, but your first birthday is always fun especially when you get to plan it! You know her, you love her, you can't wait to read about all her dating adventures....That's right vampires and witches ladies and gents, it is Rachel's/Sun and Sinatra's first blogiversary *party popper emoji, dancing girl emoji, flamenco emoji, heart eye emoji*
What better way to celebrate one year in bloggyland than with a giveaway with amazing bloggers!

Three Lists.

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Happy Hump Day! Or as some like to call it, Wednesday. I usually write my blog posts the nigt before, but lately I have been doing this thing, some of you may have heard of it, called going to bed early. It's this new thing I'm trying to add into my vocabulary day so I don't look like a zombie and can make normal, English sentences when I speak. (Yes, I am very very grumpy when I don't sleep, or eat, and my words turn into gibberish. Crazy, I know). If you follow me on any form of social media, you would know that I went to Disneyland yesterday! And if you don't follow me on any form of social media, now you know. I have an annual pass, and I have gone to Disneyland twice in two weeks since I got it, meaning I have to go about three and a half more times to get my moneys worth. Helloooo, spring break/summer, although I am planning on going way more than just 3 times. Not going to apologize. So, with that being said, I have a few lists I wanted to share with you that will update you on my life, kind of.

New things:

1. I want a superhero boyfriend.
2."Get Up On This": I now listen to a podcast, and people driving next to me think it's talk radio. I'm not at that point in my life yet.
2a. Do you have an Instagram? Follow humansofny. Not only does it make me want to go to New York even more than I do every single day, but it gives you another perspective and is very very interesting. And yes, I found out about this through my podcast. Judge me. I dare you.

3. I recently found out that The Vampire Diaries has a spin off show called The Originals3a. I am on the last episode of season 4 (the last episode on Netflix and I am proud and ashamed all at once.)

4.  I got a bBIG! I am calling her bBIG because she is my blogging big and she is amazing. Her name is Brianna and she blogs about her life and her Air Force boyfriend. *swoooon.

5Justin Timberlake is going on his Full 20/20 Tour and he will be at Staples Center on August 12th. So, who is going with me? Serious question.

6. Going off of the Justin Timberlake concert, I am broke. No more spending money. Erika and I made a pact that when we go back to San Francisco, we aren't spending money. Well, we're going to Costco to stock up and then limiting ourselves to not eating out, no shopping, that sort of fun stuff. Erika's method is to stay in bed, while I will hopefully be working so much that I don't have time to go out shopping. That is, if anyone would respond to my internship emails. Hmph.

Things I am over:

  1. The app that tells me who follows or unfollows me on Instagram and Twitter. I deleted it and I never should have downloaded it in the first place because I shouldn't care that much.
  2. My Mophie phone charger, partly because I think it is broken. It stopped charging my phone at 60% and it was fully charged. That's not supposed to happen.
  3. Safari. I hate it but I don't want to override Apple and make Chrome my default because I want them to be able to fix it if anything happens to it.
  4. Rumors/Gossip at my work. I'm convinced people there are really pre-teens in adult bodies.
  5. Not knowing what I am wearing to IMATS this weekend. It's a real struggle and I have to figure it out.

Random things:

1. Avocados. I am still in that phase.
2. I didn't record PLL last night and I am kind of upset.
3. Remember "Kathy" the infamous Disney pin that I was trying to trade? Well I decided to keep Kathy unless I actually meet a cast member named Kathy, and even then, I might not trade it because it's a story and I feel kind of attached the Kathy. I am also a pro-pin trader now. Or at least I think I am.

4. Do I follow up on an email after I send someone my writing sample? I want the internship but I don't want to seem pushy.
5. There will be a giveaway tomorrow on the blog and so you should come back tomorrow to see what it's all about! (:
6. Here are some pictures from yesterday (:

My genius way to remember where we parked.

I am judging myself for duck facing.

I can be competitive if I want.
